Camper water tanks and portable showers for vans and 4x4s
Having water to hand completely changes the travel experience. With a good water tank you can shower after the beach or the mountains, wash the dishes or rinse the mud off your boots and bike without relying on a campsite or a nearby tap. It is one of those upgrades that, once you have tried it, you never want to leave at home again.
The Braguscamp 30 L solar water tank mounts on the roof or roof rack and uses the sun's radiation to warm the water; it comes as a complete kit with tank, pump, hose, mounting kit and manual. The 24 L shower tank is portable and features a manual pump that pressurises the water in seconds, with no electricity required.
For anyone who wants hot water on demand, the 6 L 12 V 200 W boiler integrates into the electrical system of your van, caravan or 4x4. It installs horizontally and simply, and the digital remote control lets you adjust the water temperature with ease.

Camper water tanks: frequently asked questions
Does the solar tank heat the water?
Yes. Exposed to the sun on the roof or roof rack, the water warms up gradually throughout the day. The final temperature depends on solar radiation, ambient temperature and exposure time, so on sunny days you will have a pleasant shower waiting when you return from your activity.
How much power does the 12 V boiler use?
The boiler is rated at 200 W, so you will want a leisure battery with good capacity, such as a LiFePO4 lithium battery, and wiring of a suitable cross-section. Check the product page for installation recommendations before connecting it to your electrical system.
Can I drink the water from these tanks?
They are designed for showering and cleaning, not for drinking. For drinking and cooking, use bottled water or a dedicated food-grade container. That way you keep each use separate and ensure the hygiene of the water you consume during your trip.
Does the 24 L shower tank need electricity?
No. It has a built-in manual pump: a few seconds of pumping pressurises the water and gives you a shower with a good flow. That makes it an ideal solution for camping without hook-up or as a back-up kept in the boot.
What does the 30 L solar tank include and where does it mount?
It comes as a complete kit: tank, pump, hose, mounting kit and instruction manual. It is designed to be fixed to the vehicle's roof or roof rack, which makes it particularly practical on 4x4s and vehicles fitted with a rooftop tent.
How is the 6 L boiler installed and controlled?
It installs horizontally, which makes it easy to fit inside a cabinet or a space under the bed. It connects to the vehicle's 12 V system and is operated with a digital remote control that lets you adjust the water temperature without having to reach the unit.
How many showers do 24 or 30 litres of water give me?
It depends mostly on your habits. With short showers, turning the water off while you soap up, a tank goes much further than you might think and usually covers several people or several days. If you also use it to rinse a wetsuit, bike or dishes, consumption rises. Always carry a separate supply for drinking and cooking.
Can I fit the solar tank if I have a rooftop tent?
Yes, the 30 L solar tank is designed to fix to the roof or roof rack and is especially practical on 4x4s with a rooftop tent. Check that there is free space on the bars and bear the weight in mind: 30 litres of water add about 30 kg, plus the tank itself. The total load must not exceed the dynamic load of the bars or the vehicle.
How do I keep the water and tanks in good condition?
Empty the tanks at the end of each trip, rinse them with clean water and leave them open to dry before storing, ideally in the shade. Do not leave water standing for weeks, as it encourages algae and bad odours. Always refill with good-quality mains water and check the condition of the hose and connections from time to time.
What should I do with the tanks in freezing weather?
Water expands when it freezes and can damage tanks, pumps, hoses and fittings. If you travel in sub-zero temperatures, empty the solar tank and the shower tank overnight or keep them inside the vehicle. If you are laying up your campervan for the winter, drain the water heater too, along with the water circuit, to avoid damage.
How can I shower in private next to the vehicle?
The Braguscamp changing awning works as a portable shower annex: it creates an enclosed space next to the vehicle where you can shower or change in complete privacy. Combined with the 24 L shower tank with manual pump or the 30 L solar tank, you have a complete shower anywhere, without relying on campsites or service areas.
Can the water in the solar tank get too hot?
On very sunny, hot days, the water can get quite hot after several hours of exposure. Always test the temperature with your hand before showering or using it with children. If it is too hot, wait a while or mix it with cold water. On cloudy or cool days the opposite happens: the water will only be lukewarm.
Which water option suits me best?
If you drive a 4x4 with a roof rack or rooftop tent, the 30 L solar tank makes use of space you already have and warms water without electricity. If you prefer something you can move and store, the 24 L portable shower with manual pump is the most flexible. If your campervan has a 12 V system, the 6 L water heater gives you hot water whenever you want.
What soap should I use when showering outdoors?
Use biodegradable soaps and shampoos sparingly, and always shower well away from rivers, lakes and springs, so the soapy water filters into the ground instead of reaching the water directly. Respect local rules on camping and waste water, and leave no trace. That way you enjoy your trip and look after the places you visit.
