Alpicool compressor fridges for campervans, 4x4s and motorhomes
A compressor fridge works just like the one at home: it cools and freezes regardless of the outside temperature while drawing very little power. That is why it is the preferred choice over thermoelectric or absorption cool boxes for travelling by campervan, 4x4 or motorhome, especially in summer or in destinations where daytime heat is intense.
At Braguscamp we have selected the Alpicool CF series in three capacities: the 30.6-litre CF35, the 40-litre CF45 and the 49.4-litre CF55. All of them regulate the temperature between -20 °C and +20 °C, so they work as a fridge or a freezer, and run on 12/24 V in the vehicle and 230 V at home or on the campsite.
MAX mode cools down quickly and ECO mode cuts consumption, with a power rating of just 60 W. Three-level battery protection switches the fridge off before it can compromise engine starting, and its low draw makes it the ideal partner for a lithium battery or a solar panel.
Why choose an Alpicool fridge
01
True compressor cooling
Freezes down to -20 °C even when it is hot outside, something a thermoelectric cool box simply cannot match.
02
Dual power supply
Runs on 12/24 V in the vehicle and 230 V at home or on the campsite, with no extra accessories.
03
Battery protection
The three-level protection cuts out in time, so your vehicle always starts first time.
04
Low consumption
ECO mode and just 60 W of power, ideal with a lithium battery, power station or solar panel.
How to choose the right camper fridge size
Think about how many people are travelling and how many days you want to go without restocking. For couples or day trips, the 30.6 litres of the CF35 are enough. For family weekends, the 40-litre CF45 strikes the right balance. For long journeys or groups, the 49.4-litre CF55 is the one to choose. Always check the external dimensions before you buy.
✓ Size the capacity by number of people and days of autonomy
✓ Measure the boot or cabinet space where it will sit
✓ Leave clearance around it so the compressor can ventilate
✓ Pair it with a lithium battery or solar panel for off-grid trips
Frequently asked questions about compressor camper fridges
Can it be used as a freezer?
Yes. Alpicool CF series fridges let you set any temperature between -20 °C and +20 °C, so they work as a fridge for drinks and fresh food or as a freezer to keep frozen products frozen throughout your trip.
Will it drain my vehicle battery?
It should not. The three-level battery protection switches the fridge off before the voltage drops below the minimum needed to start the engine. You can adjust the level depending on whether you use the starter battery or a leisure battery, and travel knowing the vehicle will start.
Can I plug it in at home or on the campsite?
Yes. Alpicool portable fridges run on 12/24 V in a car, van or truck and on 230 V from any household socket or campsite hook-up. That means you can pre-chill it at home the night before and arrive with everything already cold.
What capacity do I need?
For one or two people on short trips, the 30.6-litre CF35 is enough. For a family on weekends away, the 40-litre CF45 offers the best balance. For long journeys, groups or if you want plenty of room to freeze and chill, choose the 49.4-litre CF55.
What is the difference between MAX and ECO mode?
MAX mode prioritises rapid cooling, ideal when you first load the fridge or on very hot days. ECO mode reduces consumption to extend battery life once the set temperature is reached. The usual approach is to cool down in MAX and hold in ECO while travelling.
Can I run it from a power station or solar panel?
Yes. Its low consumption makes it ideal for running from a lithium battery, a solar panel or a high-capacity portable power station. That combination lets you camp for several days off-grid with your food always kept at the right temperature.
How much power does an Alpicool compressor fridge use?
The CF series fridges have a power rating of 60 W, but the compressor does not run continuously: it starts and stops according to the internal temperature. Real consumption depends on the outside temperature, the set temperature, how full it is and how often you open it. ECO mode reduces consumption once the desired temperature has been reached.
Where should I place the fridge in the vehicle?
Choose a firm, level spot such as the boot or a campervan cabinet, and secure it with straps so it cannot shift while driving. Most importantly, leave clear space around the vents so the compressor can ventilate properly; if it overheats, it works harder and uses more power. Avoid placing it next to heat sources or in direct sunlight.
Why a compressor fridge rather than a thermoelectric one?
A thermoelectric cool box only cools a few degrees below the outside temperature, so it falls short in intense heat, and absorption fridges are more sensitive to ventilation and levelling. A compressor fridge works like the one at home: it cools and freezes down to -20 °C regardless of how hot it is outside, with very modest consumption.
How do I clean and store the fridge between trips?
Unplug it, empty it and clean the inside with lukewarm water and mild soap or a little bicarbonate of soda, without abrasive products. Dry it thoroughly and store it with the lid slightly open to prevent odours and mould. Also check that the compressor ventilation grilles are free of dust, especially after off-road trips.
Does it work in a truck with a 24 V system?
Yes. Alpicool CF series fridges run on 12/24 V, so they work in cars and vans with a 12 V system as well as in trucks and vehicles with a 24 V system. They also plug into 230 V at home or on the campsite, with no need for extra adapters.
What leisure battery do I need for the fridge?
It depends on how many days you want to go without recharging. As a guide, a 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery comfortably covers a compressor fridge and some lighting, especially if you recharge it with a solar panel. For long stays or higher consumption, the 200 Ah version gives more headroom. A high-capacity portable power station is the installation-free alternative.
How can I reduce the fridge's consumption in summer?
Pre-cool it on 230 V before you leave and load it with food and drinks that are already cold. Place it in the shade with good ventilation, open it only when necessary and keep it full: cold items help hold the temperature. Use MAX mode to cool down and ECO mode to maintain, and do not set a lower temperature than you need.
Can I use the fridge while driving?
Yes, that is the usual way: it plugs into the vehicle's 12 V socket and keeps cooling during the journey, with battery protection monitoring the voltage. Check that the socket and cable can handle the load, and bear in mind that on some vehicles the cigarette lighter socket cuts out when the ignition is off. Secure the fridge so it cannot move.
