Portable diesel heaters for rooftop tents, campers and vans
Diesel heaters are the most efficient way to get steady, dry heat away from mains power. They burn a small amount of diesel in a sealed chamber and heat the air through an exchanger: the combustion air and the air you breathe travel through separate circuits, and the exhaust gases leave through the exhaust pipe outdoors.
At Braguscamp we choose all-in-one carry-case models: tank, pump, electronics and display are built in, so nothing needs to be installed in your vehicle. Put the heater on the ground, connect the hot-air duct to the side port of your rooftop tent, camper or van, and within minutes the space is at the temperature you want.
They run on the vehicle's 12 V battery, a 230 V socket or a portable power station, and you control them from the display, the remote or your phone via Bluetooth, with thermostat and timer.
Why choose a diesel heater
01
8 kW of dry heat
Plenty of power for rooftop tents, campers and vans, with no humidity inside.

03
12 V, 230 V or power station
Vehicle battery, household socket or portable power station.
04
Portable, no installation
Carry-case format with 6 L tank: put it on the ground and you're done.
Diesel, electric or gas heater: comparison
| Heater type | Energy source | Typical power | Off-grid | Dry heat | For rooftop tents |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Diesel heater | Diesel + 12 V | 2–8 kW | Yes | Yes | Yes, with the exhaust outdoors |
| Electric heater | 230 V | 1–2 kW | No | Yes | Only with a power hook-up |
| Gas heater | Butane / propane | 1.5–4 kW | Yes | No, creates humidity | Not recommended in enclosed spaces |
How to choose your diesel heater
Look at the power, how you will supply it and where you will use it. These are the keys:
✓ 8 kW easily heats a rooftop tent or a camper
✓ Built-in 6 L tank for several nights of autonomy
✓ 12 V and 230 V supply for use on the road and at campsites
✓ App, remote and display control, with thermostat
✓ Automatic altitude adjustment for the mountains
✓ Low noise for a peaceful sleep, under 35 dB
Using a diesel heater safely with your rooftop tent
- Always place the heater outside the tent, on the ground and on a firm surface.
- Only the hot-air duct enters the tent, through the side port.
- Point the exhaust outwards, away from the tent, windows and the air intake.
- Sleep with a carbon monoxide (CO) detector inside the tent.
- Use diesel only and refill the tank with the heater switched off and cold.
Frequently asked questions about diesel heaters
How much diesel does a diesel heater use per night?
It depends on the power level and the outside temperature. Between 0.16 and 0.45 L/h, which means 1.3 to 3.6 L over an 8-hour night. With the 6 L tank you get 13 to 37 hours of runtime.
Can I connect it to a power station?
Yes. Plug the included 230 V adapter into the station's AC output (at least 300 W). An 8-hour night uses about 300–370 Wh, so a station of around 1,000 Wh lasts 2–3 nights.
How does it connect to a rooftop tent?
The heater stays on the ground under the tent. The 76 mm hot-air duct goes up to the tent's side port and is secured by tightening the drawstring or Velcro. We include a manual in Spanish and English with the steps.
Will it drain my car battery?
While running it draws about 3 A (36 W), and about 13 A for a few minutes at start-up. A full night is about 24 Ah, so we recommend an auxiliary LiFePO4 battery or a power station if you sleep with the engine off.
Does it work at high altitude?
Yes. The heater automatically adjusts the air/diesel mixture up to 5,500 m and shows the altitude on the display.
